My Story

c8K7A8003_colorFor 20 years I was an elementary school teacher. I guess you can say I'm a born teacher. I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t teaching or helping people to grow and flourish. It's given me satisfaction and great joy being a part of the learning process.

But, in doing this I ran myself into the ground. I loved what I was doing and just kept taking on more. Like so many people, I was crazy busy. Every. Single. Day.  I turned to Diet Coke and Reese's Peanut Butter Cups to get me through each day. Treats were my reward for working hard. And since I worked really hard, I was stuck in  this cycle and I continued this pattern. But at what price?

Wellness-Full

For months, I stood in front of the refrigerator, staring at the shelves, hoping to spot that exact, certain something that would satisfy my cravings. Something rich and filling.

Here's a glimpse: Sugar addict?  Yes!  Tired? You bet!  Stressed and deserving of reward? Absolutely!  Despite my fulfilling career, family and friends, I realized I'd spent my whole life being uncomfortable in my own body-- feeling disconnected, unhappy and searching.  Most of the time I was sluggish and functioning half empty. I didn't realize it, because I didn't know what full felt like.  I am not referring to a physical full, rather a "Wellness-Full." Something was off and I needed to know why.

I was hungry for clarity.

Sometimes a nudge is all it takes. My Pilates Instructor suggested I consider talking to a health coach. I didn’t even know what that was, but I was intrigued. I knew I needed help. So I made the call and began my own journey.  Making that call and working with my  coach changed my life.

That Was Then. This is Now

I think part of what made me such a good teacher is that I have always loved learning.  For me, teaching was about sharing and discovery.  I knew it was time to graduate to a new level of teaching where personal experience, professional training and passion merged.

I began my journey with a Mindful Based Stress Reduction Program offered through the University of Minnesota. This conscious awakening led me to further discovery at Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health. It was then that my spirit was enlightened and I made the decision to pursue certification as a Holisitic Health Coach.

I received my training from the Institute of Integrative Nutrition where I studied a variety of dietary theories and practical lifestyle coaching methods. My training included instruction from some of the most well known leaders in holistic health such as: Dr. Andrew Weil, Dr, Deepak Chopra, Dr, Mark Hyman, and more.

Now, I feel healthy and fulfilled. I feel energized and balanced. I've experienced  how a life can be changed.   I hope to give you the tools you need to feel "Wellness-Full," too!

getting startedOurs will be a process of growth and discovery as we create a plan that is nourishing, and one that will fit your lifestyle. I will offer you support and tools that will assist  you in shifting unhealthy behaviors to lasting positive changes. Together we will discover exactly what your body is telling you, and what nourishment you may really be craving.

Maybe you've shied away from dietitians, counselors or personal trainers because you're embarrassed, feel it's too personal or you think you'll be judged or shamed or pushed into a regimen that sounds uncomfortable.  Maybe you have tried so many diets, only to find out that the changes you made during that time are not sustainable.  Maybe the thought of clean eating and organic foods feels overwhelming and intimidating. Together, we will identify the specific areas that you need support, and create your recipe for success.

Coaching Options

In our program together, I’ll offer guidance on how to implement changes. We’ll uncover all the emotions around food, and discover how to find a healthy life balance that is all rooted in self-love. You can choose whether you would like to meet with a group, or individually. We can cook and even shop together. I offer a variety of coaching options to help get you started.

  • Personal Immersion   Ready to go all in?  To focus on you, your story, your needs?  The Individual Coaching Program includes 8 one-on-one sessions over 4 months plus e-mail support between meetings. In addition, you will receive books and a binder filled with educational information and recipes to support your new discoveries and lifestyle.
  • Gain Support from a Group    Sometimes a small community helps motivate and support new behaviors. Join a group, or come with a group of your friends. Group sessions meet 2 times a month for 4 months. In addition to nutrition coaching, you will receive recipes, books, and support for your journey towards health and balance.
  • Jump Start    What if you could start your new lifestyle with a refrigerator stocked with delicious whole-food meals, with new cooking techniques, and with a whole new outlook on food? The Add-on Program allows you to identify potential barriers to your success and to build concrete solutions right into your program. Add-on possibilities include: cooking sessions, Co-op tours, or even pantry upgrades and are tailored exactly to your needs.  Jump-Start can be added to either individual or group coaching options.

There is no "one size fits all" here.

You and I will co-create a custom plan designed to move you toward your goals in a way best suited to your style and needs. I'll help you explore nutrient dense foods that are delicious and satisfying.  We'll discuss ways you can have a healthy relationship with food. (Really, you can!) You will leave each session with a  suggested reading,  new recipes or foods to try, and renewed energy to make  lifestyle changes.

How is your program different from other “diets”?

That's easy! My program is not about restrictions.  It's about freedom and relationship building.  Oh, and you won't be asked  to purchase meal replacements or metabolic supplements. (Isn't that refreshing?) You'll be creating a whole new relationship with food- one that will help you achieve health and wellness goals in a way that feels good right from the start.  Get ready for an eye- opening and delightful experience as you discover foods that are delicious and satisfying that will help you to increase your energy and help you to feel your best.
